Over a thousand nurses and doctors will be receiving medals in recognition of their upstanding work and dedication during the covid-19 pandemic. The medals will be given by Jex Trophies to uplift and encourage the frontline workers. A Sitting of the Senate took place today in Belmopan as the Bills and Motions brought over from Friday’s House Meeting are being debated for ratification. One of the major debates this morning had to do with the border jumpers amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The Government of Belize is seeking to increase the penalties for those coming in and out of the country illegally via the informal crossings in the north, west and south. A family of seven in Orange Walk has been quarantined at the Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town for forty-three days.

Ahead of the general elections in November, the Opposition People’s United Party presented its plans to address the health issues in Belize, particularly as the country battles to contain the current COVID-19 pandemic. The plan calls for the building of health facilities in several municipalities, including San Pedro Town. On Thursday, August 27th, PUP Leader Honourable John Briceño spoke to island residents, discussing his intentions to deliver adequate health services on La Isla Bonita and Caye Caulker.

Rickey loved growing a garden, and was proud of everything. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Edward James Hoover Jr. Tom loved to golf in later years, and could outshoot his daughters and son on the course, which always gave them a big laugh.

It could be overwhelming to someone new to meet them all --- they were definitely a clan. Jim and Peggy loved to travel and visited most of the United States. Laurie and Steve were stationed in Germany and they visited them three times over the years. Peggy also went back to Germany with Paula to see Killian, Jamie and Paula’s grandson and Peggy’s great-grandson. They went on wonderful vacations with Jim’s brother and wife, Lee and Donna Harper through the years. Mema and Boppa then started a tradition of taking the grandkids on a vacation and over the years, went across the United States.

Throughout their lives they remained faithful and dedicated members. Sue was active in United Methodist Women and served the church in many capacities over the past 65 years. Sue loved hunting and fishing with Bill, gardening, cooking, volunteering, and spending time at the Elsik beach property on Baffin Bay. But she especially loved her role as "Granny" to her seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Sue was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. She and Bill had a special relationship, and these two high school sweethearts are now reunited.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life. Betty was born November 21, 1925 in El Paso, TX to Earl P. and Fannie Prentiss. Betty attended University of Texas at El Paso, and New Mexico State University. On June 16, 1951 she and John M. Andrews were united in marriage in El Paso.

Loved gardening, fishing, visiting with his friends, and spending time with his family. Steve was born November 3, 1958 in Marlow, to Lewis and Patsy June Bolton. He was a 1977 graduate of Marlow High School, and after graduation he attended Oklahoma State University. Steve moved to Comanche in 1992, when he purchased the Comanche Times Newspaper. Steve was the biggest and most vocal supporter of Comanche. He proudly told everyone that Comanche was his adopted home town.

On August 5, 1960 he and Sandra Kay Folks were united in marriage in Wichita Falls, TX. He worked for Halliburton for many years, before his retirement in 1998. Jerry was an excellent golfer, and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He was an avid OU Sooners fan, and an Oklahoma City Thunder fan.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law, Kenny Weast. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother—Wayne Mathews. Viola is survived by one brother –Eldon Mathews and his wife, Mozelle of Bowie; two sisters-in-law—Fern Turner and her husband, Joe of Ryan and Maxine Dyer of Nocona, TX; many other relatives.
