Cenotes are naturally formed water reservoirs or sinkholes that are common in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Formed by limestone bedrock that collapsed leaving a hole or underground water cave, cenotes come in many shapes and sizes – some forming underground labyrinths of connected caves. You’ll get to see Cozumel from a different perspective above the trees from 6 different canopy platforms where you’ll then zip along lines in a harness.

Snorkel Tour

When you start planning a vacation to this Mexican island, be sure to include one or more of the experiences mentioned in this article to make the most of your time there. There are an abundance of things to do and see at Xcaret – which means you’ll have to plan your day carefully. A day pass to Playa Mia gives you access to one of the best public beaches in Cozumel Mexico. Playa Mia has more than 20 water park attractions, lounge chairs on a white sand beach, kayaks and sailboats, a kids’ playground, a swim-up pool bar, and more.

Take a glass-bottom boat ride

Spend the day relaxing in the sunshine, snorkeling, and taking in some of the most idyllic Caribbean ocean views. Be prepared, because Chankanaab National Park isn’t your normal national park. A day pass to Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park gives you sea lion and manatee shows, a botanical garden, a beach club, a crocodile farm, and access to the beach and marine park. This is a good option if you just want to lounge by the pool, snorkel offshore, soak up some sun, and take a dip in the lagoon. This tour is 1.5 hours, starting with meeting the stingrays in waist-deep water for 30 minutes. After feeling the rays softly brush against your legs, you’ll get to move to a deeper enclosure where you can snorkel with rays and a myriad of colorful coral reef fish.

Prepare to be mesmerized by all the fish that gather near the boat as your guide sprinkles fish food into the sea. Enjoy a buffet lunch on the beach and sit under a palm tree if it gets too sunny. The first time I visited Cozumel we booked a catamaran and beach break excursion through the cruise line.

You’ll swim in the crystal clear water, learn about the astonishing caverns, and come away with a unique story that’s bound to make everyone you know jealous. Speaking of underground rivers, how does the thought of exploring an entire subterranean world sound? Assuming we’ve piqued your attention, the Amazing Secret River excursion is a must-see for anyone with an explorer’s spirit and craves new experiences in life. Of course, the unlimited food and drinks, chance to kayak through the inviting water, and snorkel amongst the tropical fish are also pretty tempting in their own right.

Every time I’ve visited Cozumel, I’ve done something different and every time it has been truly a great experience. There are plenty of choices, but I wanted to highlight the top five budget and family-friendly excursions that you should choose from when visiting Cozumel on your next Carnival Cruise. A cruise to Cozumel lets you choose between activities local to the island or a short ferry trip away on the Yucatan peninsula. Cozumel has two dolphinariums where you can experience the thrill of being in the water with these beautiful creatures. Or maybe you’d like the chance to snorkel among the biggest fish in the world, the whale shark, or around graceful sea turtles in their natural habitat.

Book a shore excursion, walk around, enjoy the beautiful weather, go shopping and so much more. It’s no wonder Cozumel is the top cruise destination in the Caribbean. Visit an ancient Mayan city, the only one built on a coastline! A 45-minute ferry ride, followed by an air-conditioned coach bus ride will take you to this ancient city.

This is a great thrill-seeking activity for families and children and usually lasts around an hour. You can also upgrade to an all-you-can-eat buffet, open bar, Hobie cat and clear kayak access, towels, lockers, and beach umbrellas. The Atlantis Sub is a great activity for families with children, as it is both safe and educational. Your knowledgeable guide will provide lots of insightful information as you journey along the reef. No matter which tour you choose, you’re sure to leave with a full stomach and a new appreciation for Yucatecan cuisine.

You can snorkel right from the shore or take boat charters to other snorkeling sites. Cozumel is blessed with two reef systems that form part of the largest reef system in the world. The hydrological conditions of the water make it a conducive environment for a host of marine life. One of the most exciting parts of a cruise vacation is discovering new delicacies from the places you visit. Skip the usual touristy hotels and spend a few hours of your port day sampling the authentic Yucatan cuisine.

So we did our research and looked at which Cozumel day trips are the most popular and get good reviews. If you are interested in doing something on your own and are more into snorkeling, then the Money Bar is another great choice. The Money Bar is a restaurant and bar located right on the beach where you can eat a nice lunch, relax, and spend time swimming and snorkeling. The best time to visit the island is during its winter season which runs from December to April.

You’ll also get to know more about Cozumel’s fascinating archaeological wonders. One unique feature in Mexico is a group of Ecological parks. Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Xplor, and Xenses are separate parks, so you would have to choose just one for your day. It features a lazy-river which is a real river, a zip-line, cenotes to swim in, and several animal encounters. Each park costs roughly $100 admission, but many of the park’s activities require additional cash.

The site has several structures you can explore, including El Castillo, which sits atop a cliff 40 feet (12 meters) above the Caribbean Sea. Shopkeepers are aggressive in many Caribbean islands, but I think more so in Cozumel than anywhere else. Don’t be surprised if you are constantly yelled at and asked to visit their shops. If you aren’t interested, a polite “No, Thank you” works just fine. I don’t remember much about the food at Money Bar, but I know friends who absolutely loved the Ceviche and look forwarding to going back. Visit a chocolate factory and learn how chocolate is made from seed to the final product.
